Hello there all RV’ers, and welcome to our Crash Course in our RV.
We have been camping and RV’ing for years now . Traveling on the road and seeing new things is so much fun. Like I always say”Expect the unexpected” and that is always the case when you travel in an RV and much more.
Well, we have had the most unexpected thing yet“Our First RV Mishap”. Yes we, (my husband) wrecked the rig.
Our First RV Mishap
To all Newbie’s and seasoned RV’ers this and much more can happen to you to. You just never know . Always expect the unexpected. Even though you don’t plan for it.
How We Wrecked The Rig
Excitement: Well, lets see now. We were so excited to finally have one of my daughters graduate from culinary school. So we started planning our trip to Austin. After all that planning and packing the rig, the rug was pulled out from under us.
Covid Derailment
The Covid-19 Pandemic happened and it changed everything. Graduation was cancelled. We were in limbo for a couple of weeks about the situation. What were they or how were they going to solve this situation. They went back and forth for weeks and they finally made the decision to reschedule it for some months later.
Determination
Hell Bent: After all that planning, packing the rig with clothes and making campground reservations. We said the hell with this. We finished last minute preparations and pack up the grand kids and headed to the storage unit.
Pulling Out
Get Set: We finally get to the unit. We unloaded all the groceries and clothes and what we needed for the trip. We even took a look around the outside of the rig to see if everything was clear. All slides, windows , and on roof clear.
So all that was clear. I stayed outside of the rig for awhile and he motioned me to get in car. So I did. He checked his mirrors and look twice again at the clearance on both sides. Well then we were pulling out we heard this awful noise. We both looked at one another like what was that.
That noise was the sound of the awning cover, awning, light, and electric plug cover hitting the pole on the side of the rig. It ripped that cover off the awning and it was hanging. The lights were busted. there was a cracked window and big scraps on the sides.
How Did This Happen
Blame: Well after this happened he blamed me even though I wasn’t the one that was driving. We both blamed one another. But I guess it was both our faults.
Wrong Turn: Well we figured out how it happened. When he was pulling out he turned towards the right and he should have turned to the left. Will never make that mistake again.
What Happened After Mishap
Big Decision: We had a big decision to make. Did we want to loose any deposit that we had. How bad are the problems that we have made to the rig and can we camp with these problems .
We look at everything , and we had to cut the awning off from the rig. throw away all broken parts. After we did this we reassessed the situation. We had determined that we could camp without these items with no problem.
So we calmed ourselves as much as we could and headed out on the road.
Word To The Wise
Stay Outside Rig: My advise to all and my self from this day forward is to not get in that vehicle until you are totally cleared out and pulled away and out of any spot no matter where you are parked.
